Transition to School

Starting formal education is an important milestone in every child’s education. It can sometimes be a time of anxiety for parents and their children. However, the teaching and support staff at Bondi Beach Public School are dedicated to making the transition from home and preschool as enjoyable as possible. We believe in fostering a friendly, safe and secure environment and encourage parent participation and involvement in classroom programs and school functions.

In Term 3 each year our school holds an Orientation Day to inform parents and their children about the school and our teaching and learning programs. We also hold a series of transition to school days for the students to become more familiar with our school environment in term 4.

School Hours

Monday—Friday 9.00am– 3.00pm

Morning tea 11.00am– 11.25am

Lunch 1.10pm– 2.00pm

Students can be dropped off in the courtyard  after 8.30am when there is a teacher on playground duty.

Kindergarten to Year 2 children should be collected after school at the class designated meeting place. Bookings for before and after school care can be made by contacting the Out of School Hours Care Centre Coordinator on 9365 4018 or by visiting the Centre.

School Uniforms

The school’s colours, including uniform colours, are navy blue and yellow. Students are encouraged to wear the Bondi Beach school uniform and a Bondi Beach hat throughout the year. Students have a variety of choices with uniform. Girls are able to wear navy shorts or a navy skirt. There are both short sleeve and long sleeve school shirts available to both boys and girls. Students are not allowed to wear jewellery for safety reasons. However, studs or sleeper earrings are acceptable.

School bags can be purchased at the uniform shop. Second hand clothing can be purchased from the P&C Clothing Pool.

Enquiries can be made at the school office.

Uniforms are available from the uniform shop near the front office. Please check the notice on the door for opening times.

Absence from school

If your child is absent on a normal school day a written explanation is required when your child returns to school. The note must include the date of absence and the reason for absence from school. This note should be given to your child’s classroom teacher. If your child is late to school a late note must be obtained from the front office before going to class.

Reporting to Parents

Bondi Beach Public School reports to parents and caregivers regarding student progress during the year. Information nights and individual parent conferences are held in Term 1. Formal assessment and reporting is completed in Terms 2 and 4.

Newsletters and Notes

The school produces a Newsletter that is sent home every Friday. Families are encouraged to provide their email address, and receive the Newsletter via email each week.  Excursions, performances, fundraising events, parent interview information, Parents and Citizens (P&C) news, OOSH news and much more are some of the topics for the Newsletter. Please make sure you read this correspondence to keep up to date with what’s going on at the school. Notes are kept to a minimum. Occasionally, additional notes have to be sent home. Consequently, please check your child’s bag on a regular basis.

Medication

Administration of medication should be made through the office. All medication needs to be given in at the front office and you should notify your child’s classroom teacher and the front office in writing as to when the medication needs to be given.

Immunisation

It is advisable all children attending Australian schools be immunised prior to enrolment. All children are required to provide an immunisation certificate, which is a record of their immunisation status. Students who are not immunised may be excluded from school during disease outbreak.

Dental checks

The dental health nurse comes during the school year to check the kindergarten student’s teeth. New children or children who have previously been identified as having dental problems are followed– up during these visits or referred onto the local dental clinic.
